Finally getting around to posting about the Evereve x Alex and Ani shopping event at Baybrook Mall I went to a few weeks back, where I got to meet some of my favorite Houston bloggers! The talented and cool beauty/mama blogger Meg O. on the Go, sassy & sweet fashion/lifestyle blogger Dawn P. Darnell, and the incomparable mom blog Moms Without Answers played excellent hosts to an amazing event. Oddly enough, we all reside in the Clear Lake/Bay Area of Houston, which I didn’t know until we settled into our new home. Just goes to show you what a small “blogger world” it really is.
Truth be told, this was the first event I’d been invited to since moving to Houston from LA (where there was literally an event 3 times a week). It felt good to get back into the groove of things and have adult conversations after 3 months of non-stop baby talk 🙂 Granted, Charlotte was strapped to me in her Ergo half the time, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Turns out, neither would the other bloggers. When I told them I was nervous about bringing her, they said they would’ve been upset if I hadn’t. Now that’s a slight (and by slight, I mean huge) change from what I was used to in the corporate world. The irony of it is that Evereve, one of the sponsors of the event, was started by a mom who was tired of how inconvenient it was to shop in traditional stores with your kids. So she started the idea for Evereve, whose motto is “Dress Like a Mom,” and who has kid-friendly areas throughout the store to make your shopping experience fun for your kids too. They even make it easy for moms to shop through their own subscription style service, Trendsend. I ended up with one of their Sanctuary brand tops, which is now the staple of my new fave holiday combo – bright plaid + leather leggings.
The next stop was at Alex and Ani, a humanitarian company that designs meaningful, eco-conscious jewelry, and who I’d always admired since learning about them when we lived in NYC. After browsing for a bit, I was drawn immediately to one of their charms for mothers called “True Direction.” Each charm comes with it’s own mantra, and True Direction’s read beautifully:
“A timeless role model, a mother gives and receives wholeheartedly. She is your greatest guide as you grow and navigate your own path in life, and always knows the right words to say. A mother completely surrenders herself in the name of love, and it is an absolute blessing to have her unconditional support. Honor the amazing woman who always leads you home.”
Now if that doesn’t make you want to pick up the phone and call your mama – I don’t know what will…
