I spy with my little eye…espadrilles, espadrilles, and more espadrilles. I’ve honestly never been a huge fan of the espadrille sandal. I think the last time I owned a pair was in the 90s, and I was pretty content to leave them there – but that was before “The Great Espadrille Takeover of 2015.” I mean seriously, it’s everywhere (amirite?). Now, I’m not one to jump on just any bandwagon trend, especially when it comes to my shoes – but you can’t deny the cuteness factor of the new wave of espadrilles. Flats, this is.
Just when I finally get comfortable with my self-imposed “shopping hiatus” – bam, out of the blue another trend blindsides me. So here I am again, struggling with the urge to add yet another pair of shoes to my already “bursting at the seams” closet. Unless you’ve been living under a very large rock (hey, I don’t judge – I’m a mom, I pretty much live in the stone age), you’ve probably seen the latest trend in sneakers – slip-on, that is.
So I tell myself – at least slip-on sneakers are practical right? You slip em on, slip em off – how much easier does it get? I realize you may not be sold (shocker), so I’ve curated a few of my top picks. They also come in nude, leopard print or calf hair, but I’m partial to the black leather look this chic lady is sporting below. I’ve managed to narrow it down to perforated vs. quilted – which sounds more like a toilet paper choice than shoe selection. Which actually just gave me an epiphany – quilted is way better, done and done…
What is a Birk-off, you may be asking? It’s a new term I coined after laying my eyes on a whole display full of Birkenstock knock-off sandals at Nordstrom on Saturday. Pret-a-Reporter goes as far as calling this style of sandal “fugly yet fab”, and Nordstrom features them as the latest trend in “earthy cool” cork footbed sandals.
I’ve always loved the brand Seychelles for their comfortable and quirky style, so I did a major double-take when I spotted their new line of Birk-offs (it’ll catch on, you’ll see). I snagged my own pair of zebra-print thong sandals – thanks to my more than generous husband, who brought me back to mommyland after straying too far to oogle at the gallery-like wall of Jimmy Choo’s…can’t a girl dream a little?
Last night I attended an event to preview the Resort 2013 collection at the Escada store in the Beverly Wilshire Hotel off Rodeo Dr. As we pulled up to the elaborate back entrance to valet, and walked through the lobby to the Escada store – I definitely had a Pretty Woman moment, minus the snubs.
Not only was the Escada team lovely, but the space and decor were equally as beautiful – literally everyone walking through the store proclaimed how it seemed to just go on and on. I personally loved how the different collections were displayed, which made it all too enticing to want to buy everything in sight. But reality set in and I quickly remembered I didn’t have Richard Gere waiting in the wings, and my credit cards – they have a limit…
