Louis Vuitton Series 2 – LA Exhibit

If you happened to miss the sartorial buzz around Louis Vuitton’s Series 2 exhibit that swept through LA this month, here’s a look into the extraordinary experience masterminded by creative director Nicolas Ghesquière.

As a partner of Los Angeles magazine, myself and a few of my colleagues were given the VIP treatment by their marketing team. These first few snaps were taken as you walk into a mirrored room filled with holograms that resolve from enormous talking heads to a lunar eclipse. It was one part funhouse, two parts “accident waiting to happen”. I’m not saying I ran into a mirror. But, I ran into a mirror.

CH2T Covets: Marsala is the New Oxblood

Last week, Pantone announced the color of the year for 2015 – Chicken Marsala. Wait, no…just Marsala. Sorry, I have food on the brain; those five bites of pasta I snuck in between shoveling the rest in Garrett’s mouth and dodging shots flung from his spoon didn’t make for much of a dinner. Let’s try that again – hold your applause please…”Marsala” is Pantone’s Color of the Year. Yes!!!!!!

Now I’m all for a good marketing pun, but let’s call it what it is – it’s burgundy, people. The same way that 2014’s Radiant Orchid was just a fancy way of saying “wear purple, it’s cool now.” What’s more, it’s actually an excuse to dig out all my old Oxblood pieces that I bought when that was the “it” color 2 years ago – no complaints here.

My Week in Style: Fall Back to Basics

For me, fall fashion is as good as it gets, and October is like the green light to whip out the sweaters and dust off the boots. It also signals the countdown to my birthday and the inevitable “fall back” time change. So to kick things off, I always make sure to invest in versatile wardrobe pieces that can easily be mix and matched and worn for at least a few more seasons.

This fall, I’m all about the oversized knits and leather leggings paired with caged heels (perfectly styled here), or the currently coveted slip on sneaker. Luckily, I was able to find the most perfect pair of imitation leather leggings and two-tone gray sweatshirt at H&M that I will be living in for the next 4 months. I also spotted the most chic gray jersey knit dress, with just the right stretch and length to flatter nearly every figure. I could just picture it going oh-so-perfectly with my All Saints ankle boots and leather moto jacket, as styled here.

Date Night: Color Blocked

If you would have told me just a year ago that going to see a movie on a school night would be the highlight of my week – I would have slapped you silly. Fast forward a year and I am here to tell you that after 10 years of being with my husband and 1 baby down – as cliché as it sounds, movie night is like gold when it comes to date night outings. I don’t know if it’s the perfectly buttered popcorn as it wafts out the theatre doors, or the oh-so-soft-to-the-touch velvety plush chairs that make you forget all about the fact that you just dropped $60 bucks on Milk Duds and a Coke (seriously what happened to the gold ole days?) Not to mention, that could have paid for those slip on sneakers at Nordstrom that I suddenly can’t live without, but I digress.

Date Night: Leather & Studs

No, I didn’t rip that off of a chapter written by E.L. James…besides I think I’m the one woman on earth who didn’t read Fifty Shades of Grey. Which brings me to my point – Grant and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary this past Friday (oddly enough, we did not gift each other anything of the “wooden” variety – who comes up with these anniversary themes anyway??)

Instead, we set out on the town like a couple of kids with no curfew – which was halfway true, given that my mom took Garrett for the night so that we could have a proper date night. First stop, my favorite Italian restaurant in L.A., Terroni on Beverly Blvd. The homemade pasta literally just melts in your mouth, bringing back memories of when my late dad used to make it at home growing up (one of the many things I miss on a daily basis).

Adventures in Shopping: To Zara With Love

It’s no secret to my friends, co-workers, family, or anyone who will listen for that matter, that Zara is for me what bacon is for anyone with a pulse – I couldn’t live without it. The obsession first started when I studied abroad in Sevilla, Spain during college and spent half the summer admiring my new found love for Spanish style and stocking up on anything I could get my hands on.

Fast forward 10 years later, and I’ve developed what I call “a healthy appreciation” for the glamorous Spanish fashion brand. Not more than a week or two can go by without feeling drawn to just “stop by” one of several Zara locations that I conveniently live within a 10 mile radius. In fact, just last weekend I stopped by the Santa Monica Promenade location and was blown away by their new Autumn/Winter ’12 line (check out the campaign here).

Bloomie’s Thursday

Tonight I braved a drive into the valley, during rush hour no less, just to get a sneak peak of Fall Fashion trends at Bloomingdale’s Sherman Oaks, and some key styling tips from Los Angeles magazine’s Style Editor Linda Immediato.

Although we were all in agreement with being so over shopping for summer, we haven’t felt quite ready to start thinking about fall. Let’s just say once the fashion show got into full swing, with enough denim, fur and leather to put anyone in the shopping mood, we were all singing a different tune.

Not to mention Bloomie’s was having their Mad About Fashion Loyallist event, lord only knows how I managed to walk away with just a Medium Brown Bag – but hey, a girl has to have some self control…

Fashion illustration by Simone Elum. We all loved how she made our legs somehow look 10 feet long.

I spotted these Rag & Bone embroidered jeans when I first walked in, and it just so happened they styled Linda in them with a Joie silk top that went perfectly.

My boss and I ogled over some Rebecca Taylor pieces – which happens to be one of her favorite brands, and it’s getting up there in my book with this tweed, fringed blazer and pleated leather skirt.

I’ve had my eye on the brocade jeans trend ever since I saw these gold brocade ones from J Brand’s Fall line. Have to say, I was resolved to let this trend pass me by – that is until I saw these Current/Elliot black brocade jeans. After seeing them modeled, they made a true believer outta me.

See more of my fav looks from the evening – just keep in mind most styles aren’t available online yet, but I’ve listed out each article of clothing which can be found in store at Bloomingdales (so apologies for no links).

Joie blouse, Current/Elliott color block jeans, Chloe bag, and Vince Camuto shoes.

p.s. Moni’s in the background of this photo, can you find her? Hint – she’s got some killer heels on…
