My Week in Style: Denim + Lace

This Sunday, after we realized that a trip to the beach just wasn’t in the cards, I tried my hand at helping Grant find a custom tailored dress shirt with a “real man’s collar” (I learned, that apparently there’s an over-abundance of wimpy ones out there, and it needs to be put to an end). So we hit up the usual shopping spots along the Santa Monica promenade, but alas, the search continues…

Now onto this little denim and lace ensemble. I’m a true believer that every woman needs that go-to accessory that can punch up a look – no matter how basic or casual. In guy terms, it’s typically a watch referred to as “the heavy-hitter” – for me, it’s my Pam Hiran beaded necklace. Mind you, I spotted it at Anthropologie months ago – but like many women before me, I waited for it to go on sale. Needless to say I obsessed over it in the coming weeks (naturally because I couldn’t find it at any Anthropologie within a 10 mile radius – believe me, I looked), and it wasn’t until I put my keen online shopping skills to good use, that I managed to snag what seemed to be the last living one on earth!

So bear with me if it makes an appearance in more than one post – a girl’s got the right to flaunt, right?

My Week in Style: Racing Stripes

I often get asked by friends what other shoes, or accessories they can pair with an outfit for a different look – my typical advice is to try some cork wedges in place of heels or a military jacket to keep it casual and bring out earth tones in a pattern.

Well, I decided to take my own advice and chose this great new light weight sweater I just bought from H&M, and my spring staple red jeans to create three different looks. Of course, could you blame a girl for channeling a little inspiration from a reproduction of a 1965 Shelby Cobra – the car Grant built with his dad…style comes in many forms my friend.

Concrete Jungle

My first foray into mixing stripes and animal prints turned out to be surprisingly less painful than I thought. I love the way the leopard print adds a whole other level of chic to this outfit, and turned out to be perfectly workday worthy. These Jeffrey Campbell’s are a gem that I found at the LF store in SoHo a few years back during their 60% off once a year sale – truth be told that’s the only time I can shop there and still leave with a clear conscience…
Heels: Jeffrey Campbell (good alternatives here & here). Scarf: H&M. Sunglasses: Old Navy. WatchMichael Kors. Leather Bracelet: Ron Herman. Rings: JewelMint, BCBG
Bump in the Road

These last few pictures were just for fun, but goes to show that a few key pieces can transform a look from dressy to laid back in minutes. I was on the hunt for a jean jacket, and after strolling the Camarillo Outlets for a solid day – I ended up coming back and finding one 5 min. down the road at the Beverly Connection. This one’s the perfect shade and fitted, so it actually looks flattering rather than boxy.
Sandals: Matiko (similar ones here). Jacket: Old Navy.
