My Week in Style: Fall in Line

Waiting for fall to come in Texas is like waiting for cherry blossom season, and then it’s gone before you know it. I’ve never let it cramp my style though. Granted, I definitely miss my LA “seasons,” which essentially allowed me to dress like it was fall year round (le sigh). But alas, I vow to prepare for fall like a medieval knight going into battle. The easiest way, if you live in a warmer climate like we do now, is to start transitioning your wardrobe with a few key accessories.

CH2T Covets: I Spy Espadrilles

I spy with my little eye…espadrilles, espadrilles, and more espadrilles. I’ve honestly never been a huge fan of the espadrille sandal. I think the last time I owned a pair was in the 90s, and I was pretty content to leave them there – but that was before “The Great Espadrille Takeover of 2015.” I mean seriously, it’s everywhere (amirite?). Now, I’m not one to jump on just any bandwagon trend, especially when it comes to my shoes – but you can’t deny the cuteness factor of the new wave of espadrilles. Flats, this is.

Louis Vuitton Series 2 – LA Exhibit

If you happened to miss the sartorial buzz around Louis Vuitton’s Series 2 exhibit that swept through LA this month, here’s a look into the extraordinary experience masterminded by creative director Nicolas Ghesquière.

As a partner of Los Angeles magazine, myself and a few of my colleagues were given the VIP treatment by their marketing team. These first few snaps were taken as you walk into a mirrored room filled with holograms that resolve from enormous talking heads to a lunar eclipse. It was one part funhouse, two parts “accident waiting to happen”. I’m not saying I ran into a mirror. But, I ran into a mirror.

Date Night: Color Blocked

If you would have told me just a year ago that going to see a movie on a school night would be the highlight of my week – I would have slapped you silly. Fast forward a year and I am here to tell you that after 10 years of being with my husband and 1 baby down – as cliché as it sounds, movie night is like gold when it comes to date night outings. I don’t know if it’s the perfectly buttered popcorn as it wafts out the theatre doors, or the oh-so-soft-to-the-touch velvety plush chairs that make you forget all about the fact that you just dropped $60 bucks on Milk Duds and a Coke (seriously what happened to the gold ole days?) Not to mention, that could have paid for those slip on sneakers at Nordstrom that I suddenly can’t live without, but I digress.

Date Night: Leather & Studs

No, I didn’t rip that off of a chapter written by E.L. James…besides I think I’m the one woman on earth who didn’t read Fifty Shades of Grey. Which brings me to my point – Grant and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary this past Friday (oddly enough, we did not gift each other anything of the “wooden” variety – who comes up with these anniversary themes anyway??)

Instead, we set out on the town like a couple of kids with no curfew – which was halfway true, given that my mom took Garrett for the night so that we could have a proper date night. First stop, my favorite Italian restaurant in L.A., Terroni on Beverly Blvd. The homemade pasta literally just melts in your mouth, bringing back memories of when my late dad used to make it at home growing up (one of the many things I miss on a daily basis).

Escada to Nada

Last night I attended an event to preview the Resort 2013 collection at the Escada store in the Beverly Wilshire Hotel off Rodeo Dr. As we pulled up to the elaborate back entrance to valet, and walked through the lobby to the Escada store – I definitely had a Pretty Woman moment, minus the snubs.

Not only was the Escada team lovely, but the space and decor were equally as beautiful – literally everyone walking through the store proclaimed how it seemed to just go on and on. I personally loved how the different collections were displayed, which made it all too enticing to want to buy everything in sight. But reality set in and I quickly remembered I didn’t have Richard Gere waiting in the wings, and my credit cards – they have a limit…

What I Wore to Meet Mr. Clooney

This past Friday I attended the Porcelanosa showroom opening event in West Hollywood, with all the Spanish modern luxe bathroom design you can handle. So naturally I turned to my favorite European brand Zara, to help me live up to the style standard of the night.

Since the weather has finally cooled off here in LA, I was able to bust out my new Zara moto jacket and paired it with a strapless black sheath dress and cap-toe heels (similar dress & heels). I topped it off with my favorite Rebecca Minkoff rocker sling bag I scored at the Lucky Shops LA event last year, and JewelMint steampunk earrings.

My Week in Style: Gold Metal Wednesday

Ever since I can remember, whether as a little girl idolizing Mary Lou Retton or sharing in the amazement of Michael Phelps, I have always loved how the Olympics can make a dreamer out of anyone. So in honor of our SoCal beach volleyball Olympic champs, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings, I dedicate today’s style to all things gold.

The top I scored a few weeks back from the Zara sale – it was just too hard to pass on those gold rivets and sheer softness of the material. The metallic gold strappy sandals were also a great find at one of Banana Republic’s ridiculous shoe sales…Don’t you just love getting compliments on something you know you only spent 30 bucks on?

I recently saw in the August issue of Glamour where the Editors pitched their best idea for a fashion/beauty-focused Olympic competition, such as “hair straightening” or “nail art”. Well, if bargain shopping ever made the cut, you better believe I’d be a qualifier.
