When my husband and I met, he was still working at NASA (he literally used to train astronauts at NASA’s NBL – soooo he’s kinda a big deal, but he’d never tell you that ;), and I never dreamt we’d have the chance to pass on his love of space to our son someday. But it’s like that passion was passed down in his genes, which has been so special since moving back home to Houston and living just five minutes from NASA. In fact, we were just talking the other day about the wonderful irony of us ending up buying our first home back in Clear Lake, after living in NYC, LA and traveling all around the world. Funny how life comes full circle sometimes.
With all that said, I kinda had to do a space-theme for our little Gmonkey, and I’m so excited with how it turned out. I spent many a days while he was in preschool, scouring Marshalls, Ross, and Hobby Lobby to find all the space related art, pillows, bedding, etc. I could get my hands on. I’ve linked to all of the decor below – sans the official NASA paraphernalia that you can only score if your dad’s got the hook up 😉 Oh and I have to give a special shout out to Seedling who just launched (see what I did there) their new line of creative playkits for toddlers Seedling Littles. If you follow me on Instagram, you may remember me saying how over the moon (ok, ok – space puns officially over) Garrett was when the package came! For days he kept asking where his “rocket backpack” was and he’s still so excited to show it off anytime someone comes to visit us. It’s been really cool getting to see him use his imagination – just a bonus that it totally went with his room. Now if only I could get him to keep his room looking like this, but that would take a miracle 😉

NASA Paraphernalia – (Top left) When anyone leaves the NBL, all the other divers and astronauts sign this cool mounted logo. (Top right) The signed photo was another going away present from astronaut Rex Walheim, thanking Grant for helping him train for that mission/spacewalk. (Bottom left) This is an actual photo of Grant in a custom spacesuit that they only make for senior divers on the team, and it’s a special honor for them to get to switch roles and experience what the astronauts go through in their training at the NBL. (Bottom right) This is an old Apollo 11 memorabilia that my dad got as a gift from my mom – when he passed, my mom handed it down to Grant and now we’ve passed it on to Garrett.
Wardrobe – My father-in-law happens to be an expert craftsman and made this for Grant when he was a child, similar found here, but nothing compares to the real deal.
Wall Decals – Space Travel Peel & Stick from Amazon
Pillow & Chair – “All You Need is Love and the Beach” pillow old/similar here, Plush Puppy Chair was a gift from grandma, similar here
