Is it just me, or did we go from living in the slow lane, to almost being sideswiped by an 18-wheeler? Lol, that’s just how 2020 feels right now. The transition from being home 24/7 with your kids, to shipping them off to school happened in the blink of an eye. It sure didn’t feel that way for the past 6 months, that had it’s fair share of ups and downs. Now that we’re back to our regularly scheduled lives – I kinda feel a little blindsided, but in a good way. I think it’s safe to say we all were pretty ready for life to get back to “normal” – whatever normal means these days 😉
Right now it’s the return of school, and we all know that back-to-school season equals busy schedules filled with drop-offs and pick-ups round the clock. For me, the first thing I think of is food, and “What in the world am I going to feed these kids?” Luckily my kids LOVE hot dogs and I do too, so when we found Nathan’s Famous Hot & Ready Hot Dogs at Walmart – I literally did a happy dance! It’s the perfect easy meal for when you’re on the go, and I personally love that they’re all original, made with 100% premium beef, no artificial flavors or colors, and no by-products. You can find them at the deli counter in Walmart Neighborhood Markets and Supercenters, as well as in the hot & ready case near checkout. Easy and Fun Dinner Ideas for Kids
Dine Al Fresco
When my husband travels or has to work late, I like to plan a fun little “picnic dinner” with the kiddos to get their mind off of missing daddy. With the weather cooling off, it’s been fun to eat outside on our front porch. Grant just built a kid-sized bench and table where I set up a little hot dog station with our favorite Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, condiments, and sides. Garrett and Charlotte both loved the idea! It truly is the little things that make moments special with kids, even something as simple as eating Nathan’s Famous hot dogs outside 🙂
K.I.S.S. aka Keep it Simple Silly
I’ve learned over the years, that kids don’t expect anything fancy when it comes to a fun dinner idea. Some nights we order pizza, other nights I’ll swing by Walmart after school pick-up and snag their fave grab and go meal. It’s kinda perfect, because with Nathan’s Famous Hot & Ready Hot Dogs you can literally eat them right then and there – in the car as a fun little on-the-go picnic, or even meet up with friends at the park for a social-distancing playdate. Either way the kids are fed and happy, and mama didn’t have to lift a finger in the kitchen.
Little Helping Hands
I don’t know about you, but between the hours of 3pm and 7pm – my kiddo’s energy levels seem to skyrocket. I couldn’t get those kids who actually get tired from a full day at school. So I’ve had to come up with creative ways to wear them out, and believe it or not, just asking them to help with dinner or around the house has worked wonders for mine. Especially my older one – he’s such a born helper. So if I ask him if he wants to have a picnic and movie night in the sun room, he gets all giddy to help. He loves decorating and helping set up the picnic area, and we even have a cute picnic basket with plates, silverware and plastic “fancy cups” as he calls them 😉 So next time you’re at a loss with what to do with your little ones – I highly recommend letting them help set-up a fun movie-themed dinner or picnic!
I hope these tips help the next time you need to entertain your kids, and don’t forget to try Nathan’s Famous Hot & Ready Hot Dogs at your local Walmart and earn $.25 cash back with Ibotta!
