Our little Cha Cha just turned one, and for months leading up to her first birthday, I wasn’t thinking about what theme I wanted for her party (cuz cactus, duh, hehe). Nope. I was thinking about the dreaded “four-letter word” that every breast feeding mama loathes: wean. Thinking, how in the heck am I going to wean this “perfectly content to breastfeed her whole life” baby? This baby who touched a bottle for less than three seconds and decided I might as well be putting some foreign contaminate in her mouth. This baby who nurses with such ease that I honestly wonder if it’s cuz she’s my strong-willed child and there ain’t nothing she won’t tackle like a champ.
Yet her birthday came and went, and oddly enough my boobs didn’t just magically turn into pumpkins at the stroke of midnight. Safe to say they are still alive and well, although they’ve definitely seen more perky days 😉 Other than that, nothing’s really changed. The only thing that’s changed is my mind. Instead of worrying so much about when I should be weaning Charlotte, I’m more self-aware of what feels right for us at this moment. Not three or four months down the road. Not what the internet says is right or wrong, good or bad. But what I know is the best decision for my baby and me.
It’s actually pretty ironic, because August just happens to be breastfeeding awareness month and the theme this year is – Breastfeeding: Foundation of Life! The theme focuses on breastfeeding as the foundation of lifelong good health for babies and mothers. By now you probably know what a huge fan of Evivo probiotics we are, and how important it is to us to make sure we’re providing Cha Cha with all the support early on to set her up for a healthy, long life. But did ya’ll know how critical those first 6 months of a baby’s life are for immune and metabolic development? Evivo has taught me so much about how the composition of Charlotte’s gut microbiome plays a crucial role in this process, and the benefits of Evivo’s good bacteria, B. infantis, mixed with breastmilk. You can read all about our struggles, triumphs, and worries in our first year of breastfeeding and how Evivo has helped us along the way. Also, if you’re expecting or already a breastfeeding mama, you can get $10 off a 4-week Evivo Starter Kit using code BLOG8151. Or $20 off an 8 week or more Evivo Starter Kit with code BLOG8152.
So here’s to self-awareness and you doing you, mama 🙂

Happy birthday to your daughter. Do what feels right for you and your family in terms of weaning. I waited until closer to two and found the perfect time for each of my kids.

Good for you mama listening to your sweet baby and what she needs instead of putting an arbitrary deadline on her. <3

Thanks! It’s so hard to know what to do but I think you can’t go wrong just listening to your baby ?

I’ve nursed four babies and really appreciate your perspective. I’ve often felt rushed by society’s timeline to wean and want to be more self-aware with my next baby.

Way to go mama! It’s so easy to fall into that trap but luckily we also have wonderful mamas to remind us what’s important and we’ll never get these moments back ?
