Sign #1 that you are in desperate need of a date night: You catch yourselves referring to each other in the third person as “mom” and “dad” on more than one occasion. Yah, not cool man, not cool. So for a night, Grant and I got to leave our alter egos at home, in exchange for an intimate dinner event thrown by Los Angeles magazine at the Malibu Café at Calamigos Ranch (doesn’t that just roll off the tongue?).
The last time we attended an event at the Malibu Café, I was about five months pregnant and a freakin’ Uhaul couldn’t have dragged me away from the self-serve “s’mores bar” (I mean, seriously). Needless to say, it has a special place in my heart. Just swap out the “s’mores” for “tequila”, and voila – post-baby date night, done and done. Managed to grab a few snaps before my phone died (blogger FAIL). If you’ve never been, the only way to describe it is – rustic ranch style, meets Alice in Wonderland. Just swap out the “tea party” for a four course dinner curated by LA’s top chefs, and voila – mom and dad who?
What date night would be complete without a little shopping thrown in? As if Calamigos could make me love it anymore, they opened an OTTE boutique overlooking the venue – shopping with a view? Yes please. Now, as you may recall, I’ve had my eye out for the perfect pair of espadrille flats (see my roundup here). Just as fate would have it, they had the cutest striped pair of Soludos brand espadrilles – which I naturally snatched up the last one in my size (plus $25 off compliments of City National Bank, thank you very much).
