Mom Jean Confessions: Are You Girl Enough?

So it’s been a few weeks since we¬†broke the news that we’re expecting a girl, and I thought it would be fun to share what first went through my mind when I found out. I still can’t believe that nowadays they can do a simple blood test as early as 10 weeks to reveal the gender, and a friend of mine told me that they literally just call you up and tell you what it is. Well she wasn’t lying, and when the nurse asked if I was ready to know all I kept thinking was “oh I already know it’s a boy.” Well, not so much. When I heard her say “girl” my first reaction was, “Really??” Then, I had to ask how accurate it was because I knew Grant would want to know, and she reassured me everything is pointing to a girl. So of course I got all teary-eyed as I called my mom to tell her, failing miserably at trying to keep cool swinging my 3 year old at the park. I then got so excited because¬†I’d been devising a plan to surprise Grant with balloons and girly looking desserts when he got home from work. When he walked through the door it was that classic look all those dads on the Youtube videos have when their sneaky wives film their reactions – at first it’s shock, and then just the sweetest look of contentment. I sent a pic to Grant’s family and they all said it looked as if¬†he were blushing ūüôā

New Year, New Us!

Now that my superstitious mind has waited long enough, I’m finally ready to announce the big news. I’m pregnant! Yep, the Murray’s will be welcoming another little tyke into our family August 1st (but I’m thinking it’s gonna be a July baby, given that Garrett came early and this one’s measuring a whole week bigger already!). Aaaand, wait for it – it’s aaaaaaa….GIRL!

My Week in Style: Ants Marching

Is it just me or did the month of October march by like ants on an ant hill, or incidentally like the ants that swarmed my feet during this shoot (no seriously, I almost freaked). I don’t know if it’s just because I share my birthday month with my son now (yes, I get a whole month, don’t you?), or if fall in LA is like a glitch in the system. You see it happen, but it doesn’t last long enough to actually believe it happened.

Secrets of the Universe: Streicher Sisters x Bobbi Brown

“And now folks, introducing the 4th member of the Streicher Sisters”¬†(crowd goes wild)…or at least that’s how it went in my dream. For months now, all I kept reading about was how these three sisters, Jenn, Kristie, and Ashley Streicher¬†are taking LA by storm via their insane makeup,¬†brow, and hairstyling skills – check out their monthly column on Violet Grey.

Now I know what you’re thinking – yes they are actually sisters, and no¬†the name is not made up (contrary to my husband’s popular belief). They are just that cool. So when¬†I heard my favorite girl band (seriously,¬†would¬†it not make for a killer band name?)¬†would be hosting an event at Nordstrom at The Grove, introducing the launch of¬†Bobbi Brown’s ‚ÄúSecrets of the Universe‚ÄĚ – I¬†sweet talked the hubs into¬†watching the munchkin (aka¬†chasing him around¬†The Grove)¬†while I got my fill of¬†girl time.

Tried & True Beauty: They’re Real, I Swear

How does¬†the saying go? Good things come in threes? Well, I never thought that could apply to mascara, but apparently Benefit Cosmetics knows something I don’t. They generously gifted me with¬†a set¬†of they’re real! lengthening¬†mascaras in three killer colors, and I couldn’t wait to try them. I was already sold on their jet black shade, after trying it a couple years ago when it first came out. So I was excited to try the Beyond Brown and Beyond Blue shades to see just how daring I could be.¬†As if¬†I wasn’t hooked enough, they totally got me with¬†the quirky¬†Sharknado 3 promos “Oh Hellllll No!”

Pushing Forty: A Men’s Style Guide in 8 Simple Rules

imageEver since I met my husband Grant, he’s had impeccable style. I’m not talking like in the weird metro kinda way – I just mean the guy has taste, and good taste to boot. I was raised by an Italian father whose own style made most Americans look like, well, Americans. So I inherently¬†appreciated Grant’s sensibilities around how to dress, and how to dress with a timeless, classic style. So against his better judgement, and possible bribing on my end, he’s agreed to guest blog for me this week on the wake of his birthday (the one before the big one). So listen up folks, I’m looking at you “guy in the graphic tshirt” – he’s only gonna say this once…

Cammeo Head to Toe Turns One!

A year ago this April marked the one year anniversary of my other, slightly less demanding and not nearly as cute¬†baby – my blog. Oddly enough, it took having a baby to¬†get the courage to launch my own blog, as if I needed one more thing to tackle. I had just returned to work full-time, was still nursing a 6 month old baby through the night, and figured – “Hey, I’m up at 1am anyway, might as well write.” As crazy as it sounds, looking back at this year, I am so glad I did it. Becoming a mom truly does change the whole life game – it’s as if everything before now was just rehearsal for¬†my¬†“real life” to start. Everything I thought I knew about myself and what I wanted for my future, was turned upside down and inside out. Starting this¬†blog awakened my true love for writing, something I always had a passion for growing up and somehow¬†had pushed aside along the way. It¬†also has given me a creative¬†outlet I so desperately needed, not only to pursue my personal styling, but¬†it served as a way for me to¬†express myself in ways that are so crucial when deciphering your life as a new mom.

CH2T Covets: Marsala is the New Oxblood

Last week, Pantone announced the color of the year for 2015 – Chicken Marsala. Wait, no…just Marsala. Sorry, I¬†have food on the brain; those¬†five bites of pasta I snuck in between¬†shoveling¬†the rest¬†in Garrett’s mouth and dodging shots flung from his spoon didn’t make for much of a dinner. Let’s try that again – hold your applause please…”Marsala” is Pantone’s Color of the Year. Yes!!!!!!

Now I’m all for a good marketing pun, but let’s call it what it is – it’s burgundy, people. The same way that 2014’s Radiant Orchid was just a fancy way of saying “wear purple, it’s cool now.” What’s more, it’s actually an excuse to dig out all my old Oxblood pieces that I bought when that was the “it” color 2 years ago – no complaints here.

Date Night: Color Blocked

If you would have told me just a year ago that going to see a movie on a school night would be the highlight of my week – I would have slapped you silly. Fast forward a year and I am here to tell you that after 10 years of being with my husband and 1 baby down – as clich√© as it sounds, movie night is like gold when it comes to date night outings. I don’t know if it’s the perfectly buttered popcorn as it¬†wafts out the theatre doors, or the¬†oh-so-soft-to-the-touch velvety¬†plush¬†chairs that¬†make you forget all about the¬†fact that you¬†just dropped $60 bucks on Milk Duds and a Coke (seriously what happened to the gold ole days?) Not to mention,¬†that could¬†have¬†paid for those slip on sneakers at Nordstrom that¬†I suddenly can’t live without, but I digress.
