Last month I had the pleasure of filming three segments for ABC13 with my friend/reporter Rebecca Spera – “Wardrobe Transition Pieces,” “Closet Cleanout,” and “Five Minute Makeup Hacks.” If you’re a local Houstonian, then you might have caught the first segment this past Wed afternoon. I modeled four different looks that are perfect for when you’re either in between sizes from just having a baby or on a weight loss journey. Either way, finding the right outfits for your changing body can seem daunting and take the fun out of shopping. So, I was asked to style versatile looks that are perfect for day or night, dressy or casual, and what must-have pieces you can pull from your wardrobe to get you through this transition.
Earlier this week I was fortunate enough to be invited behind the scenes of a fashion shoot, by our lovely and talented (and very french, oh-la-la) neighbor Frederic of Frederic Photography.
Frederic shot several dramatic looks of actress Charity Shea, who plays “April” in the hit VH1 TV series “Single Ladies”, for FCM Magazine. I entered at the tail end of the shoot, just as they were wrapping up some vintage-style photos with our very own Cobra (see earlier post “Racing Stripes“).
I was able to catch up with the wardrobe stylist for the shoot, Reginald Michael, and got to pick his brain on what it’s like being a stylist. Ironically, he wanted to pursue design, but his teachers/colleagues at FIDM suggested he going into styling – he’s been at it for 2 years now and loving it.
Reginald was gracious enough to humor me, like a big brother does a little sister (I should know, I am one), and shared some valuable advice “I have friends in fashion or styling, some are just personal shoppers, they don’t actually do this. There are little areas you can really specialize in, so there’s a lot you can discover”…well, consider me inspired.
