Our First Weeks with Baby Charlotte

Our sweet baby girl (who we can now call by her actual name, Charlotte Madeleine Murray), was born Friday July 21st at 3:47 am, at 7 lbs 14 oz and 20 in long. Garrett dubbed her with one last nickname – “Twinkle Toes” – when he met her in the hospital, and not gonna lie – it kinda stuck. He also couldn’t help but notice the “Italian trademark” of dark hair covering her ears, to which he inquired, “Why does baby sister have so much fur?” LOL. It’s hard to believe that just this past Tuesday was my original due date, but this little lady had other plans. She shocked us with what we’re now calling our “trial run” the Wednesday night before, which sent us to the hospital and then back with irregular contractions 3-6 min apart. So come Thursday night, I told the hubs that I was just going to ignore any weird contractions I was feeling. Easy enough, that is, until 1 am rolled around and I got up to go to the bathroom, after tossing and turning for lord knows how long, only to realize my contractions were 2 min apart and had me buckled over in pain. Yep, it was the real deal. So we called our sweet neighbor again to come stay at our house with Garrett until my MIL could make it over, and Grant literally flew down the freeway to the hospital 40 min away – with me white-knuckling the passenger door handle the whole time.

CH2T Covets: Baby Registry Must-Have From a 2nd Time Mom

To try and “momsplain,” as I like to say, all that I’ve learned since having my first child three and a half years ago – would quite possibly need a blog dedicated all to itself. I’d call it “You Know Nothing, First-Time Mom” (where all my GOT fans at??). Enticing idea, but instead I’ve decided to do a little run-down of my single favorite baby registry must-have that just might get you through those second (or third, or fourth) baby blues.

Mom Jean Confessions: HIMYM

I could have written the typical “2nd Birthday Recap” post, showing off the crazy themed party with professional-like photos. Except, we opted out of that this year for an at home low-key celebration with the hubs and GaGa (my mom) – complete with gifts just from family, and a dang good box cake if I do say so myself. So instead I decided to do some reminiscing, and it may have taken me 2 years – but I finally know how I met your mother. Buried under all that flimsy armor, so proud and tough, hiding her emotions at her own expense. I have only one regret – I wish I’d met her sooner.

Mom Jean Confessions: Neither Here Nor There

As much as I would love to write a typical fashion post (don’t worry, I’m rounding up my “currently coveting” vest trends as we speak), there’s just something more pressing that’s been weighing on me for a while now. It’s this notion that nothing is ever good enough – and here’s what I mean by that…

For as long as I can remember, I’ve struggled with wanting and needing more. So much so, that my dad used to tell me growing up, “don’t try so hard to keep up with the Jones’s (or the Kardashians as it turns out), because you’ll never be satisfied that way.” I literally had no idea what he was talking about, but my dad knew and understood me better than anyone, and even he could tell that I was a restless soul – always wanting, never satisfied with what was right in front of me. With his passing, I definitely gained a new perspective on life that he was so desperately trying to help me find, but I often still find myself longing for that greener grass on the other side of the fence.

Mom Jean Confessions: I Am My Mother

This Mother’s Day is my “official” second time celebrating the holiday. I say “official”, only because Grant convinced me it was totally legit to celebrate when I was pregnant with Garrett – so technically we’re on year three, but who’s counting 😉

Regardless, I truly never knew how special it would feel to be a mom on Mother’s Day. I keep joking that it’s like having a second birthday – but seriously, it kinda is. Which got me thinking, and feeling uber guilty, about all the Mother’s Days I spent with my own mom and whether I truly ever gave “her day” the attention it deserved. Because from where I stand now, having been through pregnancy, childbirth and the first year of being a new mom – I’m sorry, but that woman needs her own Macy’s day parade. If you don’t believe me, let me enlighten you by playing a new game I like to call – “I am my mother”. Here goes…

Mom Jean Confessions: Just Say Yes to Cabo

This is a public service announcement for all you mamas out there – “Just Say Yes to Cabo.”

When you have the chance to take an essentially all-expense-paid vacation to Cabo, it’s typically a no-brainier, right? Wrong. The operative word here being “typical”, which I am anything but when it comes to making decisions. It’s as if I get some sick, twisted satisfaction in making myself squirm in the anguish of actually making a decision. Yep, I’m a bonafide, self-professed waffler who relies on her husband’s voice of reason to remind me that we deserve a vacation, just the two of us, and that our son will survive five days without me. Gah, harsh much? But thing is, having been through it and survived, it really is ok to say “yes” to Cabo.

CH2T Covets: Boys Will Be Boys

I’ve always had a healthy appreciation for baby clothes and shoes (husband translation: she has a major baby shoe fetish). So when I found out last year that we were expecting our first child, I’m not gonna lie, dressing her/him up everyday was something I couldn’t help but get excited about. In fact, I remember being so relieved leaving my 12-week appointment that I marched myself across the street to the H&M at the Beverly Center – which happens to have a hidden mecca of baby clothes that were just waiting for me to snatch them up.

CH2T Covets: Zara Mommy Blogger Collab

That’s it, I’m convinced, Zara is determined to take over my life and the world as I know it. It’s bad enough that they tempt me with every new collection, but really, they just had to go and create the cutest mini-clothes ever. Their latest Brothers & Sisters collab with mommy bloggers pinksugarland, ohjoy, and mokkasin seriously makes me consider popping out 10 more kids (sorry for the visual) just so I can outfit them in these amazing duds.

Here are just a few of my picks from the collection – a polka dot denim jumpsuit, I mean…
