Adventures in Shopping: Hunt for the Great White

A week ago I set out on the perilous, and at times tedious, hunt for the great white…t-shirt that is. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about shopping – it’s always when you’re looking for a certain piece of clothing, that it’s nowhere to be found (amirite?). Luckily I’ve perfected the art of the “power shop”, with the arrival of my son Garrett, and set out like a woman on a mission.

My mission was simple (and I chose to accept) – locate a single destination where you can hit up at least 4 stores (3 is too little and 5 is overwhelming). Fortunately, living on the Westside of LA has its perks where you can choose from Beverly Center/Beverly Connection, Westfield Century City, The Grove, and Santa Monica Place/3rd Street Promenade. On this particular day, I chose to power up for my shopping trip by lounging on the beach before hitting up the stretch of stores along the Promenade.

A Spring Affaire – Trina Turk & Operation School Bell

Ladies who lunch took on a whole new meaning as I attended the Spring Affaire event this past Saturday hosted by the Assistance League of Los Angeles. The luncheon was held at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills and benefit Operation School Bell, a charity dedicated to “dressing children for school success” – now that’s a mission I can get behind.

Working for Los Angeles magazine definitely has its perks. We not only produce some of the best events around L.A., but every now and then you get the opportunity to attend events where you show up not knowing what to expect and you leave pleasantly surprised. I only wish there were more events like this one, that celebrate the amazing accomplishments of the awe-inspiring women who make up this wonderful city of ours.

CH2T Covets: Zara Mommy Blogger Collab

That’s it, I’m convinced, Zara is determined to take over my life and the world as I know it. It’s bad enough that they tempt me with every new collection, but really, they just had to go and create the cutest mini-clothes ever. Their latest Brothers & Sisters collab with mommy bloggers pinksugarland, ohjoy, and mokkasin seriously makes me consider popping out 10 more kids (sorry for the visual) just so I can outfit them in these amazing duds.

Here are just a few of my picks from the collection – a polka dot denim jumpsuit, I mean…

Adventures in Shopping: Birk-offs

What is a Birk-off, you may be asking? It’s a new term I coined after laying my eyes on a whole display full of Birkenstock knock-off sandals at Nordstrom on Saturday. Pret-a-Reporter goes as far as calling this style of sandal “fugly yet fab”, and Nordstrom features them as the latest trend in “earthy cool” cork footbed sandals.

I’ve always loved the brand Seychelles for their comfortable and quirky style, so I did a major double-take when I spotted their new line of Birk-offs (it’ll catch on, you’ll see). I snagged my own pair of zebra-print thong sandals – thanks to my more than generous husband, who brought me back to mommyland after straying too far to oogle at the gallery-like wall of Jimmy Choo’s…can’t a girl dream a little?

CH2T Styling: Summer Wedding Edition

Spring has definitely sprung. For me, the first sign is when the purple flowers start to bloom on the Jacaranda trees lining our street. For many others however, it’s the onslaught of wedding invitations that flood their mailbox signaling the inevitable (and sometimes dreaded) dress shopping.

Fortunately, I revel in the challenge of helping my friends find the perfect outfit for any occasion. So I’ve dedicated this edition of “Adventures in Shopping” to help one such friend channel her inner Kate Hudson (circa How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days) for an upcoming summer wedding. My style formula is simple for weddings –

CH2T Covets: A New Wave of Pastels

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

From sheer to shiny, pastels are Spring’s most versatile trend. After being seen across nearly every collection at NYFW – Lupita N’yongo solidified it with her “Nairobi Blue” gown at this year’s Oscars. Now, if you’re like me you’ve probably admired the look on others, but have steered clear for fear of evoking more of an “Easter Bunny chic” motif. Yet with a whole new crop of designers embracing the trend, pastels are less to be feared now than ever before. Here are just a few ensembles to wet your pastel palette – whether you’re looking for one key piece, or ready to commit from head to toe (but let’s not get carried away now).

Escada to Nada

Last night I attended an event to preview the Resort 2013 collection at the Escada store in the Beverly Wilshire Hotel off Rodeo Dr. As we pulled up to the elaborate back entrance to valet, and walked through the lobby to the Escada store – I definitely had a Pretty Woman moment, minus the snubs.

Not only was the Escada team lovely, but the space and decor were equally as beautiful – literally everyone walking through the store proclaimed how it seemed to just go on and on. I personally loved how the different collections were displayed, which made it all too enticing to want to buy everything in sight. But reality set in and I quickly remembered I didn’t have Richard Gere waiting in the wings, and my credit cards – they have a limit…

What I Wore to Meet Mr. Clooney

This past Friday I attended the Porcelanosa showroom opening event in West Hollywood, with all the Spanish modern luxe bathroom design you can handle. So naturally I turned to my favorite European brand Zara, to help me live up to the style standard of the night.

Since the weather has finally cooled off here in LA, I was able to bust out my new Zara moto jacket and paired it with a strapless black sheath dress and cap-toe heels (similar dress & heels). I topped it off with my favorite Rebecca Minkoff rocker sling bag I scored at the Lucky Shops LA event last year, and JewelMint steampunk earrings.

Adventures in Shopping: To Zara With Love

It’s no secret to my friends, co-workers, family, or anyone who will listen for that matter, that Zara is for me what bacon is for anyone with a pulse – I couldn’t live without it. The obsession first started when I studied abroad in Sevilla, Spain during college and spent half the summer admiring my new found love for Spanish style and stocking up on anything I could get my hands on.

Fast forward 10 years later, and I’ve developed what I call “a healthy appreciation” for the glamorous Spanish fashion brand. Not more than a week or two can go by without feeling drawn to just “stop by” one of several Zara locations that I conveniently live within a 10 mile radius. In fact, just last weekend I stopped by the Santa Monica Promenade location and was blown away by their new Autumn/Winter ’12 line (check out the campaign here).
