Louis Vuitton Series 2 – LA Exhibit

If you happened to miss the sartorial buzz around Louis Vuitton’s Series 2 exhibit that swept through LA this month, here’s a look into the extraordinary experience masterminded by creative director Nicolas Ghesquière.

As a partner of Los Angeles magazine, myself and a few of my colleagues were given the VIP treatment by their marketing team. These first few snaps were taken as you walk into a mirrored room filled with holograms that resolve from enormous talking heads to a lunar eclipse. It was one part funhouse, two parts “accident waiting to happen”. I’m not saying I ran into a mirror. But, I ran into a mirror.

Top 5 Pins of the Week: The Nominees for Best Hair Are…

I don’t know about you, but unlike any year before, this awards season I’ve been blown away. Not by the fashion – but the hair, oh the hair! Between J Lawr (who makes growing out a bob make you want to cut a bob, just to grow one out), and Keira Knightley (who has been my hair muse since, well, forever) – I can tell you now folks, it’s gonna be stiff competition come Oscar night.

I’ve narrowed down five of my top picks from this past week’s awards shows, and have recreated the looks on moi-self – click thru the slideshow to see my tips on how to nail each one. Also check out my “American beauty” board on Pinterest to see more contenders, plus weekly beauty inspo 🙂

And the nominees are…

CH2T Covets: Marsala is the New Oxblood

Last week, Pantone announced the color of the year for 2015 – Chicken Marsala. Wait, no…just Marsala. Sorry, I have food on the brain; those five bites of pasta I snuck in between shoveling the rest in Garrett’s mouth and dodging shots flung from his spoon didn’t make for much of a dinner. Let’s try that again – hold your applause please…”Marsala” is Pantone’s Color of the Year. Yes!!!!!!

Now I’m all for a good marketing pun, but let’s call it what it is – it’s burgundy, people. The same way that 2014’s Radiant Orchid was just a fancy way of saying “wear purple, it’s cool now.” What’s more, it’s actually an excuse to dig out all my old Oxblood pieces that I bought when that was the “it” color 2 years ago – no complaints here.

CH2T Styling: Happy Clothesgiving

In light of the holiday season among us, and instead of falling victim to the Black Friday and Cyber Monday hoopla, I decided to finally do a closet purge and donate all my unwanted clothes. Luckily my office building is doing a clothing/toy drive, and I imagine many are this time of year. I also plan on donating some of my more business appropriate clothing & shoes to the local Dress for Success affiliate in West LA.

To take a step back – I was inspired to go through with my own closet cleanout after reading a style essay in ELLE recounting one woman’s attempt to embrace her thirties. Her mission was simply to clean out all the clothes she had held onto in a desperate attempt to stay young. I suddenly realized that I had been doing the same thing – holding onto clothes that had sentimental value, drumming up memories of my college years or shopping trips in NYC. So one night, I went from rack to rack and shelf to shelf, tossing clothes into bags one after another. I have to admit, it felt damn good – like I was finally going to be free of the past and heading towards being a real thirty-something adult.

Adventures in Shopping: Vince Sample Sale

Well, October came and went in a flurry – my son turned 1, I turned another year young, and our Star Wars themed Halloween costumes went off without a hitch (seriously, I pinned that DIY ewok costume before Garrett was even born – cuz that’s the kinda mom I am). Which is why I’ve been slightly MIA, sorry guys and gals!

Last week, I jumped right back in the saddle and snuck in some much needed retail therapy/girl-time with a fellow stylist friend, Laurie Brucker of LaurieBstyle. She and I met at a charity luncheon last spring, and bonded over a good cause (along with a mutual love for Trina Turk). So when she was tipped off about a sample sale for one of my favorite brands, Vince, we decided to brave the line wrapped around Wilshire just to score a few of their laid-back Cali garments.

LA Fashion Week – Ripley Rader S/S15 Fashion Show

The first time I laid my eyes on a Ripley Rader jumpsuit, it was donned by a chic coworker who styled it so effortlessly that I just had to have one. Believe it or not, I bought this navy classic jumpsuit when I was 3 months pregnant and rocked it all the way to the end – that’s how versatile her styles are.

Now, as if she read my mind, Ripley Rader’s latest S/S15 collection includes everything from maxi wrap dresses and A-line sheaths, to sophisticated crop tops paired with a wide leg pant – not to mention the most luxurious kaftan this side of Palm Springs. I was fortunate enough to snag an invite to the fashion show debuting the new line.

CH2T Styling: Wedding Day Success

I had the chance to catch up with my friend who I helped style for a summer wedding in Laguna Niguel. Now get this – the day after I posted my dress choices for her, we realized she had already been looking at buying the exact Haute Hippie dress I picked out! Don’t you just love it when the style stars align??

Check out some snaps from the big day of her looking absolutely gorgeous in the fuschia frock. Incidentally, she did not meet her prince that night – rather some dude more interested in talking up his b-ball skills…as if…

Constant Escapement – Girard-Perregaux & Concern Foundation

This week, for a change, I wasn’t the one dragging my husband to a fashion event – he came willingly, and for good reason too. It was an event hosted by Los Angeles magazine and Feldmar Watch Company, to unveil the Girard-Perregaux Constant Escapement – the first ever constant force watch. Not to get too technical, but it basically results in a pretty phenomenal spectrum of a watch with perfect chronometry – or timekeeping in layman’s terms.

What’s more, for the month of June 10% of all proceeds of Girard-Perregaux sales will be donated to Concern Foundation for cancer research. If I happened to have a spare $100K lying around, you better believe I’d be tempted to drop some serious dough for a great cause. But at least now I’ll have an excuse for being fashionably late…

Date Night: Leather & Studs

No, I didn’t rip that off of a chapter written by E.L. James…besides I think I’m the one woman on earth who didn’t read Fifty Shades of Grey. Which brings me to my point – Grant and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary this past Friday (oddly enough, we did not gift each other anything of the “wooden” variety – who comes up with these anniversary themes anyway??)

Instead, we set out on the town like a couple of kids with no curfew – which was halfway true, given that my mom took Garrett for the night so that we could have a proper date night. First stop, my favorite Italian restaurant in L.A., Terroni on Beverly Blvd. The homemade pasta literally just melts in your mouth, bringing back memories of when my late dad used to make it at home growing up (one of the many things I miss on a daily basis).

Tried & True Beauty: That’s so Fresh

This week Fresh announced their newest Sugar Lip shade, drumroll please….Tulip!

Now, one would think 6 shades of lip balm is plenty for one girl to handle (see line up of shades gracing my desk at work) – but when I saw the first teaser posted to Fresh’s instagram, I was like a kid at Christmas who couldn’t wait for the big reveal. Which, btw if you’re not following, you need to. stat.

Needless to say, they did not disappoint. Tulip promises to be that one perfect shade of tween pink that I’ve pined for ever since I saw it on the perfect pouts of the Pretty Little Liars cast. Seriously Lucy Hale, stop it.
