If you happened to miss the sartorial buzz around Louis Vuitton’s Series 2 exhibit that swept through LA this month, here’s a look into the extraordinary experience masterminded by creative director Nicolas Ghesquière.
As a partner of Los Angeles magazine, myself and a few of my colleagues were given the VIP treatment by their marketing team. These first few snaps were taken as you walk into a mirrored room filled with holograms that resolve from enormous talking heads to a lunar eclipse. It was one part funhouse, two parts “accident waiting to happen”. I’m not saying I ran into a mirror. But, I ran into a mirror.
Next up, the “Magic Trunk” aptly named for its psychedelic montage of the brand’s history, present imagery, and vision for the future. This video barely does it any justice – but you get my drift.

After recovering from our minds being completely blown, we mosied into the “Accessories Gallery” – a floor-to-ceiling white room with mannequins modeling handbags and shoes from the new SS15 collection. Seemingly pretty normal compared to the rest of the exhibit, as if they knew our eyes needed a break. Here are a few of the ones I pined over – le sigh.
Once we peeled ourselves out of that room, we were greeted with complimentary posters and stickers to commemorate our brief tryst with the brand. The poster room, which you’ve probably seen on all their press, showcased the multiple prints ads featuring Louis Vuitton muses. Between Jennifer Connelly (hello, Labrynth?), Charlotte Gainsbourg (my sistah from a french mistah), and Michelle Williams (maaaajor hair envy) – I was in holy girl crush heaven.
A new collection debut wouldn’t be complete without a fashion show, which was projected in slow motion and set to a Buddha Bar-esque soundtrack. It was so mesmerizing I literally got left behind by my group, and proceeded to run into aforementioned mirror wall (I meant to do that, ahem) trying to orient myself out of there.
The final room was set up as if you were backstage at NYFW – minus the half naked models and pasties flying around (isn’t that what you picture?).
A few of us browsed the racks, as if we could afford any of it, and picked out our dream garments. I personally could not get past the exotic eel leather that was crafted on everything from ankle boots, to handbags, to a black moto jacket that took every ounce of my being not to “pet it”. Don’t judge – you know you’ve wanted to pet a purse or two…
