If you would have told me just a year ago that going to see a movie on a school night would be the highlight of my week – I would have slapped you silly. Fast forward a year and I am here to tell you that after 10 years of being with my husband and 1 baby down – as cliché as it sounds, movie night is like gold when it comes to date night outings. I don’t know if it’s the perfectly buttered popcorn as it wafts out the theatre doors, or the oh-so-soft-to-the-touch velvety plush chairs that make you forget all about the fact that you just dropped $60 bucks on Milk Duds and a Coke (seriously what happened to the gold ole days?) Not to mention, that could have paid for those slip on sneakers at Nordstrom that I suddenly can’t live without, but I digress.
So here are some valuable style tips for the woman on-the-go, with 3 quick and easy ways to transition a look from work all day to nighttime play:
1) Creature of comfort – I know fashion can have a bad reputation for being impractical, or something only a super model who doesn’t have to worry about actually being able to move would wear. Well I’m here to break that myth. My first rule when getting dressed in the morning is to make sure I’m not only dressing for style, but also for comfort. This is especially true when I know I’m going to be stuck in whatever I’m wearing for 10+ hours, and would appreciate being able to feel my toes at the end of the night.
2) Back to basics – I like to keep it simple on the bottom with either dark wash skinny jeans (these are William B + friends, but I also love AG jeans) or black drawstring pants (H&M carries some that miraculously don’t wrinkle), which allows you to have a little more fun on top. This time, I went for a flowy blouse with a dramatic asymmetrical hem (this one’s from Forever21) which I paired with a killer chain necklace (literally, it could poke somebody’s eye out – urban outfitters has cool ones).
3) Punch it up – I’ve always found that the easiest way to punch up a look is with the shoes. Even a “style challenged” woman knows how to shop for shoes, pshhh. So the next time you’re wandering through the shoe section at Nordstrom Rack – go ahead, get those leopard print heels. You’ll be surprised how often a great pair of statement shoes can take you right out of a style funk (Halogen is a great brand that makes comfortable yet stylish shoes).
Because my husband knows the way to my heart (and possibly as a small concession for going to see a football movie) he let me have some play time in Zara beforehand, where I snatched up this body hugging faux leather dress that seriously fit as if it had been tailored just for me. I mean…
